Almost 80 percent of Papua's geographical area is a mountain with an average height of 500 to more than 5,000 meters above sea level.
This makes the
land area of Papua quite difficult to reach because of limited
infrastructure, with terrain mountainous. Currently air transportation is a
mainstay in Papua and West Papua Provinces as a means of transporting people
and goods, including basic needs,
But
consequently the cost of distribution of goods to be expensive resulting in
price of various basic needs, especially in the interior to rise.
The Toll Sea
Program is now the choice of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) Government to
reduce logistics costs that are still high.
Sea Toll Road
is focused in eastern Indonesia. Of the 13 existing Marine Toll Roads, 11 of
them are located in eastern Indonesia. The remaining two routes are in the
western region of Indonesia.
It is expected
to provide solutions in overcoming scarcity of goods such as sembako, scarcity
of fuel, and cement in eastern Indonesia.
The decline in
the price of basic needs of society has been felt Rote Ndao, East Nusa Tenggara
and now the same as Java. Recorded since the opening of the sea toll, the price
of goods in this region decreased by 10-20 percent.
The new Sea
Toll and Airport program is aimed at improving connectivity, equity, and a just
economy. The development of this infrastructure is a step to achieve the ideals
of Indonesia to become the world's fourth largest economy in the year 2045
someday.
